Classrooms are spaces where teachers provide news and updates to parents. The heart of the space is a communication feed for News and Updates. Parents can like the teacher’s posts and leave comments (with or without admin review). If opted, parents can also post to the Classroom feed. How the feed posting rights are configured is up to the school, and we are here to support and walk through any settings.
Features of each classroom include:
- Classroom Feed: Share announcements and updates.
- Events & Volunteering: Organize and manage signups.
- Forms & Documents: Fill out forms and view classroom documents
- Photo Galleries: Share classroom moments.
- Pages: Space for permanent information
- Classroom Directory: Connect with other parents by seeing their contact and/or clicking to Message.
Setting Members
When students and parent accounts are created via the API or from a file, School Signals can automatically create classrooms if students are associated with their home room teacher. School Admins of the system can also add classrooms by selecting the teacher. In either case, parents who have students associated with the teacher’s classes are automatically added as members of the classroom. Parents do not have to sign up or access any classroom codes when they log in to School Signals.
Classrooms can also be created without students being associated with the teacher. In that case, a teacher or School Admin will add applicable members to the classroom. Parents may also click to ‘Apply’ to the classroom, in which case the admin reviews their application.
How Are Teachers and Parents Notified?
Teachers and parents are notified by email and app push about new posts. Users set their notification preferences in My Account > Notifications.
Who Can Make Posts and Leave Comments?
While school administrators and teachers can post to the Classroom Feed, please note that parents’ posting rights depend on the school’s settings. Parents’ posts may go automatically live or be visible for admins and teachers only. Parents may also be restricted from making any posts.
Can I Access Classrooms Using the Mobile App?
Yes, click the hamburger menu in the lower right corner, and select Classrooms.
Can a Room Parent be Granted Admin Rights to the Classroom?
Yes, the system has this functionality. The School Admin (see your School Directory), has the rights to grant parents additional user rights. Once these rights are granted, the parent can be added as the Classroom Admin.
