The Thanksgiving season has a special place in schools across the U.S.

There is a lot to learn about the culture and traditions of Native American peoples, early settlements, and the way of life during the early stages of the country. The studies during the season integrate around USA history, art, geography, ELA, and social-emotional learning (SEL), and often span weeks before the celebrations.

There is likely no school in the country that does not acknowledge the end-of-fall season with a classroom learning moment, special occasion in the classroom, or school-wide event. The events may be supported by volunteer parents or opened to the entire school community.

How Schools Celebrate the Season

In New Jersey, the Peck School embraces the season with a variety of activities: 4th Grade organized an impressive food drive, students across grades wrote cards to veterans, kindergarteners baked and shared bread with the faculty and staff, and upper school students showed appreciation with a handmade paper turkey filled with notes of gratitude, lower school students practiced collaboration in PE with a game of “Turkey Bombardment”, and all school came together with “All-School Thanksgiving Assembly.”  (See: website)

In Broward County Public Schools in Fort Lauderdale, FL, students and Parent-Teacher Associations work with the local nonprofit Harvest Drive to collect and distribute food to families in need during the Thanksgiving season (See: website).

And in Montana, Belgrade High School will generously open its doors to the entire community by hosting a free Community Thanksgiving Dinner (see: website).

Making Event Participation Simple

When a class or school hosts an event, there is a lot to coordinate. A single, streamlined online system ensures that all information can be found easily, and that families are notified about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.  Parents no longer need to dig through inboxes to see who’s bringing what. With School Signals, schools can coordinate communication and sign-ups for fall events such as:

  • Friendsgiving lunches with RSVP tracking and volunteer roles
  • Classroom parties where parents can join to volunteer
  • Canned food drives with real-time progress updates
  • Grandparents Tea with RSVP
  • Holiday festivals with setup, decoration, and cleanup sign-ups

In addition, placing seasonal digital signs designed and powered by Rise Vision amplify the message and remind parents, teachers, faculty, and students of all upcoming fall festivities.

Connection Beyond the Season

So, whether it’s a Fall Festival or Friendsgiving lunch, School Signals keeps parents informed and engaged to help each event shine. Digital signs by Rise Vision displayed at the school support the messaging, making sure parents visiting the school are reminded of the events.

And as schools plan winter activities and look ahead to the months to come, the same features that simplify Thanksgiving events will continue to support engagement. Clear communication and simple participation remain the foundation for a strong school culture.
